Vernacular Folk Art Pine Door, Hautes-Alpes - 19th Century
Description
Vernacular folk art pine door from 19th-century France, originating from Saint-Véran in the Queyras, Hautes-Alpes. Constructed from broad pine boards, the door retains an extensive collection of functional and decorative hardware, including hand-forged iron hinges, locking mechanisms and key escutcheons, alongside a brass door knob. Particularly distinctive is the small quatrefoil-shaped iron ornament inset with red textile, introducing an unexpected decorative detail to an otherwise strongly utilitarian object. The deeply worn surface, irregularities and traces of prolonged use remain integral to its character and document its history within an Alpine domestic setting. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
