Large 19th-century French vernacular oak table, characterised by its elongated proportions, substantial plank construction and deeply patinated surface.
Rustic Vernacular Oak Table, France - 19th Century
Description
Large French vernacular oak table dating to the 19th century, featuring an elongated plank top supported by two solid panel legs connected by a horizontal stretcher. Its restrained construction emphasises the natural grain and texture of the oak, while the deeply patinated, almost black surface reveals traces of age, wear and historic repairs.
Rooted in the tradition of French rural furniture, the table reflects a functional approach to craftsmanship in which durability, material and proportion take precedence over ornament. Its considerable length comfortably accommodates eight to ten people, while the simplicity of its form gives it a distinctly architectural quality. Signs of age, including surface wear, historic repairs and variations in the timber, contribute to its individual character and document its continued use over generations. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
