A monumental Art Deco display cabinet from a historic Novara haberdashery, defined by sweeping corners, open shelving, numerous drawers and rhythmic dark wood banding.
Monumental Art Deco Display Cabinet with Drawers, Italy - Mid-20th Century
Description
This monumental Art Deco display cabinet originates from the interior of a historic haberdashery shop in the centre of Novara, Italy. Commissioned by the owners and crafted by artisans from Milan during the mid-20th century, it formed part of a complete bespoke retail installation and reflects the sophisticated architectural approach to Italian commercial interiors of the period.
Its exceptional scale is balanced by softly curved corners, warm wood veneer and contrasting darker trim, with pronounced horizontal banding creating a strong architectural rhythm throughout the composition. Originally conceived for the ordered presentation and storage of merchandise, the cabinet combines expansive open shelving with an extensive arrangement of drawers across the lower sections, each fitted with a small metal pull. The contrast between the large open display areas and the finely divided drawer fronts gives the cabinet its distinctive architectural character.
A rare surviving element of this historic shop interior, the cabinet shares its materials, curved profiles and distinctive detailing with the accompanying display cabinets and counter, forming a remarkably coherent ensemble rooted in the late Art Deco tradition and emerging Italian modernism. This cabinet forms part of the complete bespoke retail installation; for further information or enquiries about the complete ensemble, please reach out to us.
