These rare armless armchairs by Pierre Jeanneret were designed for Chandigarh, the utopian city envisioned by his cousin Le Corbusier. Jeanneret, a prominent Swiss architect and furniture designer, played a crucial role in realizing the vision for Chandigarh, where he served as chief architect and planner. His designs, characterised by a blend of modern European aesthetics and traditional Indian craftsmanship, are celebrated for their simplicity and functionality.

With a solid teak frame, flat profiled legs and a tilted wicker backrest, these chairs epitomise Jeanneret's approach to design - merging raw, robust materials with thoughtful ergonomics. The wood used in these chairs was sourced from trees felled during the city’s construction, highlighting an early commitment to sustainable design. The few remaining examples are highly sought after by collectors and embody Jeanneret’s legacy of integrating timeless design principles with local materials and techniques.
