Long narrow 19th-century French vernacular trestle table, distinguished by its exceptionally long, narrow proportions and exposed structural bracing.
Long Narrow Trestle Table, France - 19th Century
Description
Long narrow French vernacular trestle table dating to the 19th century, characterized by an exceptionally long and narrow wooden top resting on two splayed trestle supports. The base is connected by a long horizontal stretcher, while diagonal braces extend towards the centre beneath the tabletop, creating a particularly expressive yet entirely functional structure. At 220 cm long and only 36 cm deep, the table has an unusually slender profile.
The dark wooden surface retains extensive traces of age and use, including scratches, marks, old holes, variations in tone and wear along the edges. Rather than concealing its construction, the table leaves the individual supports, joints and braces clearly visible, giving the piece the direct character associated with French vernacular furniture. Its precise original function remains unknown and has therefore deliberately not been specified. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
