Large early 20th-century French vernacular worktable featuring four drawers, open storage compartments and a richly patinated dark-painted wooden frame.
Large Vernacular Worktable, France - Early 20th Century
Description
Large French vernacular worktable dating to the early 20th century, characterised by its elongated proportions and restrained, functional construction. The substantial plank top rests on a wooden frame incorporating four drawers arranged in two pairs, interspersed with three open storage compartments and lower plank shelves. Simple metal handles and keyholes retain the utilitarian character of the original design.
The deeply worn dark-painted finish contrasts with the warm tones of the exposed timber, revealing decades of use through scratches, irregularities and areas of natural wear. The pronounced grain and textured surface of the wooden top further contribute to its distinctive patina. With its exceptional scale and architectural simplicity, the worktable reflects the enduring qualities of French vernacular craftsmanship. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
