A French mid-20th-century industrial table featuring a metal-clad top, angled wooden legs and distinctive metal feet.
Industrial Table with Angled Legs and Metal Top, France - Mid-20th Century
Description
French industrial table dating to the mid-20th century, characterised by its straightforward construction and distinctive angled legs. The rectangular tabletop features a metal-clad surface and edges, supported by a dark wooden frame with broad, outward-angled legs and metal-capped feet. The contrast between the substantial wooden structure and the metal detailing gives the table a distinctly utilitarian character.
The construction shares certain formal principles with the work of Jean Prouvé, particularly in the use of angled supports and the clear expression of structural elements. A broader connection can also be drawn to the functional approach of Pierre Jeanneret, whose furniture frequently emphasised simplicity, proportion and practical construction. These parallels are stylistic rather than attributive; the designer and manufacturer of the table remain unidentified. The worn surfaces, visible wood grain and aged metal contribute to its individual character. We have four available, priced individually.
