Description

A set of rare dining chairs, designed by the Dutch Benedictine monk and architect Dom Hans van der Laan for the Abbey Church of St. Benedictusberg near Vaals in the 1950s. Crafted from pinewood and featuring copper nails, both painted in grey, imparting a natural yet refined aesthetic. Reflecting the minimal brutalist style of the Bossche School, they are designed using Dom Hans van der Laan’s unique "Plastic number" ratio of 3:4, ensuring harmonious proportions and a sense of balanced simplicity. The openings on the sides and back not only enhance functionality but also highlight the rational design principles that define van der Laan’s work. These chairs represent a significant piece of Dutch design history, echoing the architectural mastery evident in the St. Benedictusberg Abbey. We have six pieces available, priced per piece.
