Rocking Armchair in the Style of Axel Einar Hjorth - 1930s
Description
Wooden rocking armchair dating to the 1930s, characterised by its substantial timber construction and distinctive sculptural silhouette. The high backrest features a softly scalloped upper edge, while the broad, curved armrests extend into solid side panels with arched cut-outs. Gently curved wooden rockers support the structure, complemented by a seat upholstered in natural hide.
The chair reflects the rustic modernist language associated with Axel Einar Hjorth, particularly his exploration of solid timber, traditional craftsmanship and simplified architectural forms. Its decorative contours also recall vernacular and folk art furniture traditions, balancing a robust construction with expressive detailing. The warm patina and visible wood grain further emphasise its material character. The designer and manufacturer remain unidentified. Three examples are available, each sold individually. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
