A RHoK table by Bob Van Reeth, defined by its architectural clarity and postmodern construction.
‘RHoK’ Table by Bob Van Reeth, Belgium - 1986
Description
Designed in 1986 by Belgian architect Bob Van Reeth, the RHoK table is defined by an unconventional base combining two square vertical legs with two round angled legs. Originally executed in galvanised steel, the legs can be tightened to ensure stability, making the structural solution an integral part of the design. The table was conceived with either a thin brushed stainless-steel top or a cast-glass top, the latter leaving the contrasting geometry of the base visible beneath the surface.
Van Reeth designed the table for the cafeteria of the RHoK art school in Etterbeek, where it responded to the Fritz Hansen Café chairs for Copenhagen Pelikan already present in the interior. The design reflects his broader architectural approach on the scale of furniture, bringing together geometry, construction and context while introducing a subtle element of playfulness through the deliberate contrast between its square and round, straight and angled components.
