A pair of early 20th-century wooden bookcases, distinguished by pointed arched side panels, exposed wooden joints and a restrained open construction.
Pair of Wooden Bookcases with Arched Side Panels, Italy - Early 20th Century
Description
Pair of wooden bookcases believed to date from the early 20th century. Each bookcase is constructed with tall, pointed-arch side panels framing three open shelves, with a further storage compartment above the upper shelf. The shelves are connected to the side panels through exposed wooden joints, their projecting ends forming a distinctive decorative detail. Curved cut-outs at the base continue the architectural character of the design, while the warm wood grain remains visible throughout.
The combination of pointed arches, visible joinery and straightforward construction recalls historical vernacular furniture traditions, in which structural elements frequently served a decorative purpose. The matching bookcases can be arranged together or placed separately, retaining their individual proportions and character. The two bookcases are sold together as a pair. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
