A dining table by Georges Candilis and Anja Blomstedt for Sentou, featuring a restrained wooden construction with exposed metal corner connections.
Dining Table by Georges Candilis & Anja Blomstedt for Sentou, France - 1968
Description
Dining table designed by Georges Candilis and Anja Blomstedt for Sentou, France, around 1968. The table features a rectangular wooden top supported by four straight legs, connected through visible metal brackets at each corner. Its straightforward construction emphasises the relationship between the tabletop, supports and structural connections. The compact proportions allow the tables to function individually or to be arranged together to create a larger dining surface.
Architect Georges Candilis and Finnish designer Anja Blomstedt collaborated on furniture for Les Carrats, a holiday complex developed on the French Mediterranean coast during the late 1960s. Their designs translated architectural principles of practicality, economy and functional clarity into furniture intended for everyday use. Produced by Sentou, the collection combined simple wooden elements with metal connections, allowing the construction itself to become part of the design. The table demonstrates this approach through its restrained proportions, exposed joinery and adaptable configuration.
Four tables available, sold individually. A matching selection of ten dining chairs from the same collection is also available at Goldwood.
