Description
Rare and Important Pierre Jeanneret Model PJ-010615 Armchairs also known as ‘Demountable Knock Down Chair’ made in Chandigarh, India in circa 1953-54. These extremely rare low armchairs can be dismantled, made of wood with iron chains, braided cane work, and cotton cords. The slightly inclined backrest with cotton corded back supports with a single circular support stretcher to the middle, hand-braided cane work to the seat on a solid teak frame, suspended by chains to the sides, the flat profiled armrests fixed to the backrest by screws and nuts. The horizontal, flat profiled legs are connected by two circular crosspiece stretchers to the base. These chairs of which very few were made were amongst the first to be made when Pierre Jeanneret arrived in Chandigarh, these seats were used personally by him and his colleagues, worthy of the finest chair collection.
