Description
Lounge sofa model S32 designed by Pierre Chapo and manufactured in his own workshop, France 1967. This three-seat sofa illustrates the technical prowess of the 48×72 assembly. The crosspieces of the frame are long and very solid thanks to the four assembly points that can support the weight of 3 people. The carefully crafted back features two thick leather corners. This is one of the most powerful designs by Pierre Chapo as this design required a lot of thinking to carry both strength and beauty. The 3 seater is for me the best example of that as the proportions are at their best.
Provenance; Pierre Chapo Gallery at Boulevard de L’Hopital in Paris, ca 1970.
Pierre Chapo is amongst the most uprising designers from the French soil. Catching up with the renowned works by Charlotte Perriand as the quality is very similar and the style very close to the designs by Perriand.
