Description
Dutch modernism, A2-1 dining chair, Netherlands 1947 Rare and early modernist dining chairs in oak with cord seating and back. Fits well in a rustic modern, wabi sabi inspired naturalist interior. Architect and designer Mart Stam (1899-1989) played a major role in the development of Dutch Modernism. He also had very good international contacts, with architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Russian artist El Lizzitsky for instance. Mart Stam taught at the Bauhaus and was part of the Dutch Functionalist architecture platform ‘8 & de Opbouw’. He designed this chair, titled A2-1, in 1947. One year later it was added to the very first collection of the Foundation Goed Wonen. This chair is a historic piece in the heritage of Dutch Design. The wood has gained a beautiful patina and the wickerwork shows only the slightest traces of usage. Overall it is in excellent vintage condition. Price per piece- Materials
