Description

Jose Zanine Caldas, boomerang lounge chair, Mòveis Artisticos Z, Brasil, circa the 1950s. Two chairs available, price per piece. Important chairs in original condition. Personally, I believe it to be the utmost importance of keeping these museum-quality pieces as they are; 'dans son jus'. Furthermore, great quality is that these chairs have been made in a technologically advanced way for its time and from plywood, not endangered wood from the Amazones. This means these pieces will be relevant for eternity. Designed by José Zanine Caldas and manufactured in his own workshop Móveis Artisticos Z, Brazil 1950 where he made a lot of bespoke pieces. With his design-oriented view of industrial processes, it was possible to produce an entire side of a chair out of a single piece of cut plywood. This pair of chairs is an outstanding example, consisting of four boomerang-shaped pieces that together form one chair, hence its name ‘Boomerang’. The intelligence of this design is also stipulated by its dimensions, width, height, and depth are all 76 cm, creating elegance in a perfect cube.
